Guidance

Disable with caution verified 17 Oct 2026

A platform package labelled "Private space", tied to Android's Private Space feature. Private Space is a separate, lockable area for sensitive apps: AOSP describes it as built on the multi-user model as a dedicated private profile (one per device, for the main user only), with its apps shown in a separate launcher container and hidden from recents, notifications and settings while it is locked. No source consulted names this package or says exactly which part of the feature it implements. AOSP does document that, from Android 16 QPR2, users can copy or move files from outside into the private space, with a system component handling the transfer, but whether that component is this package could not be confirmed. Version note: Private Space arrived in Android 15, and the user restriction that controls it, DISALLOW_ADD_PRIVATE_PROFILE, was added in API level 35. This standalone package, however, appears in our sample only on devices running API 36 and API 37 (Android 16 and Android 17), mostly Pixels and Googlebooks, with target SDK 36. That is consistent with the feature being split into its own package after its Android 15 debut, but the release in which that happened could not be sourced. For Android Enterprise the feature matters more than the package. Google documents that on a device with a device owner (fully managed and dedicated) creating a private profile is blocked by default and the device owner cannot allow it. On company-owned work profile devices it is allowed by default, but the profile owner can block it through the parent profile. It is supported on personally-owned and company-owned work profile devices, where Private Space apps bypass any configured VPN. To stop users creating one, use the policy rather than disabling this package; disabling a platform component of a user-facing feature is not a documented control, and its effect on Settings and the launcher is untested.

Package intelligence

Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.

Manage on devices

ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Disable for the current user
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.privatespace
Remove for the current user - a per-user uninstall; the APK stays on /system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.privatespace
Re-enable
adb shell pm enable com.android.privatespace
Restore (re-install for the current user)
adb shell pm install-existing com.android.privatespace

Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
