com.android.theme.icon.squircle Copy

"Squircle", an AOSP icon-shape theme overlay and a sibling of the Rounded Rectangle, Teardrop and Pebble overlays. It is a code-free Runtime Resource Overlay (RRO) targeting the core "android" framework package in the android.theme.customization.adaptive_icon_shape category. When enabled it replaces the icon mask path that AdaptiveIconDrawable uses to crop launcher icons with a squircle (a rounded square), and it sets the corner radii of system dialogs (4dp, and 8dp for bottom-sheet dialogs). It has no launcher icon and is switched on or off by the overlay manager. Version note: the overlay is present in the Android 10 and Android 11 frameworks/base source, and the icon-shape overlays were removed from AOSP during Android 12 development; the Android 12 source does not contain it. Our sample nonetheless records it on Android 10 to 12 builds and on Android 14 and 15 builds from Motorola and others, so some OEMs keep shipping their own copy. Whether it remains user-selectable on those builds could not be sourced. Its sourced contents are cosmetic, and no Android Enterprise, EMM or kiosk role is identified in the sources cited here. Disabling it is not expected to offer any benefit, so leave it in place.

• Signed by Google's own signing key (the same key Google uses across devices), so it is a Google-provided preinstall that updates independently of the system image, though 5 different Google signing keys appear across the fleet. This certificate spans 29 device makes - the hallmark of a globally distributed Google key.
