com.android.theme.icon.teardrop Copy

"Teardrop", an AOSP icon-shape theme overlay. Like the other icon-shape overlays it is a code-free Runtime Resource Overlay (RRO) targeting the core "android" framework package in the android.theme.customization.adaptive_icon_shape category; when enabled it replaces the icon mask path used to crop adaptive launcher icons with a teardrop shape (round, with one squarer corner) and sets matching corner radii for system dialogs. It has no launcher icon and is controlled by the overlay manager. Version note: it is present in the frameworks/base source for Android 10 and Android 11, and was removed from AOSP during Android 12 development (June 2021) as no longer used with the new theming; it is absent from the Android 12 source. Our sample still records it on Android 14, 15 and 16 builds, mostly from Motorola, so some OEMs keep carrying their own copy; whether it remains user-selectable there could not be sourced. Its sourced contents are cosmetic, and no Android Enterprise, EMM or kiosk role is identified in the sources cited here. Disabling it is not expected to offer any benefit, so leave it in place.

• Re-signed by each device maker with its own platform key - 7 different certificates appear across 3 device makers in our sample. That is the signature of a stock AOSP/system package every OEM builds and signs itself, not a single maker's or a third party's preinstall.
• Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
