com.google.android.settings.intelligence Copy

A Google system package whose English label on this site is "Settings Services", with localised equivalents in other locales. Google's Pixel help page of the same name says "The Settings app on your phone uses core system software called Settings Services" and that it "allows setup, connection and customisation for settings on your phone and certain app settings". That page documents the product rather than naming this package, so the tie to it rests on the matching label. The page lists what its permissions are used for: checking whether the phone is connected to a mobile network, letting widgets show status for the phone and its Bluetooth-connected devices, showing status notifications, and all-the-time location for Rules, with the statement that location data "stays on your phone and is not sent to Google". It also says Settings Services may collect phone or other IDs, app interactions, crash logs and diagnostics when usage and diagnostics is switched on. The package name mirrors AOSP's com.android.settings.intelligence, which the platform configuration names as the "System settings intelligence package name". The AOSP manifest for that package declares a SuggestionService behind BIND_SETTINGS_SUGGESTIONS_SERVICE and a SearchActivity handling com.android.settings.action.SETTINGS_SEARCH. Whether Google's package is built from that code, or fills the same platform slot on Pixel builds, could not be sourced; the shared name and the overlap in requested permissions (READ_SEARCH_INDEXABLES, MANAGE_FINGERPRINT, GET_PACKAGE_SIZE and READ_DEVICE_CONFIG appear in both the AOSP manifest and this site's list) make it a reasonable inference and no more. This site aggregates permissions across observations rather than per build. It is recorded here on 18 device entries: 17 under the Google make (Pixel 6 through Pixel 10 Pro, plus three sdk_gphone emulator images) and one Samsung SM-F971B entry at API 37, on builds from API 31 to API 37. It is not user-facing in any observation. Where this site holds signer data, which is 9 of those 18 entries and all of them Google-make, the key is classified as Google and is not one that also signs the Android framework. The aggregate signer record additionally lists HP as a make, which does not appear in this package's device list; that discrepancy could not be explained here. Version note: recorded version names run from 1.1.0.382500958.sr to 1.1.0.983130915.sr, and this site's intelligence roll-up reports 48 observations carrying its updated-system-app flag. How the package is updated is not described on Google's help page, which also names no Android versions, and no version-specific change to the package's role could be sourced. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use, no enrolment or management role is identified in the sources cited here. Google describes the software as something the Settings app uses, so disabling it risks affecting Settings features that depend on it; which features, and how Settings behaves without it, could not be established. Leave it in place unless per-device testing shows otherwise.

This certificate spans 4 device makes - the hallmark of a globally distributed Google key.
• Its largest observed manifest declares 36 permissions: 6 runtime (user-granted), 13 signature or system-level, 9 install-time and 8 vendor or uncatalogued.
• APK size ranges from 6.7 MB to 20.1 MB across the reporting device profiles, so the build differs substantially between them.
• Reported as an updated system app in 52 of 59 observations - a newer build was installed over the one in the system image. Multiple observations can come from the same device profile.
