Guidance

Disable with caution verified 27 Aug 2026

A Samsung platform component that devices report under the terse label "FACM". Samsung names the package in its own Knox Common Criteria mode application lists, which pair that label with com.samsung.android.aircommandmanager, so the package and its label are Samsung-confirmed. Samsung does not expand "FACM" anywhere we could find, so this note does not guess at it. It is signed with a Samsung framework-signing certificate and has no launcher entry in our sample. The package name points at Air command, which Samsung does document: it describes Air command as a customisable menu of shortcuts to S Pen features such as creating a note, Smart select, Screen write and AI select, opened by removing the S Pen or by hovering it and tapping the floating icon. Samsung's own guidance frames this as a feature of "select Galaxy devices using S Pen". That framing sits awkwardly with where the package actually ships. Samsung's certified lists record it on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and the Galaxy S20 5G, and this database records it across a wide spread of models including budget A-series and M-series handsets. In other words the package is observed far more broadly than a feature scoped to select S Pen devices would suggest. Why it is present on the models recorded here, and what it does on each of them, could not be sourced, and no reading of that is asserted here. Its recorded permissions are broader than Samsung's description of Air command accounts for. SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW fits a menu that floats over other apps, and storage access fits capturing and saving screen content. Beyond that it is recorded with the full Bluetooth set including BLUETOOTH_PRIVILEGED, with NFC, with Wi-Fi state and CHANGE_WIFI_STATE, with fine and coarse location, and with REBOOT and DEVICE_POWER. Nothing Samsung publishes about Air command explains the NFC, reboot or power permissions, and we did not find a source for them. Version note: Samsung's certified lists record version 1.2.41 on the Galaxy S20 5G (Android 10), 1.2.61 on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G (Android 11) and 1.2.65 on the Galaxy S21+ 5G (Android 11), while our sample runs from 1.5.25 to 2.3.05 across target SDKs 31 to 36. So the certified Android 10 and 11 examples all sit on a 1.2.x line while this database also records builds up to 2.3.05. Samsung publishes no changelog, and neither when the 2.x line appeared nor what it changed could be sourced. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk fleets the relevant property is that this component can draw over other apps, which is worth a decision on a dedicated device that is meant to show one application and nothing else. We found no source making it an enrolment, policy or compliance dependency. If this package does back Air command on a given S Pen model, disabling it could affect that menu and the shortcuts hanging off it, so confirm the relationship on the device rather than assuming it. On the other models recorded here we cannot say what, if anything, removing it affects, which is precisely why it is rated with caution: test it on one device of each model in your fleet before rolling a change out.

Package intelligence

Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.

PermissionDescription
android.Manifest.permission.DEVICE_POWER -
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION This app can get your approximate location from location services while the app is in use. Location services for your device must be turned on for the app to get location.
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION This app can get your precise location from location services while the app is in use. Location services for your device must be turned on for the app to get location. This may increase battery usage.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and name of connected Wi-Fi devices.
BLUETOOTH_ADVERTISE Allows the app to advertise to nearby Bluetooth devices
BLUETOOTH_CONNECT Allows the app to connect to paired Bluetooth devices
BLUETOOTH_PRIVILEGED Signature or privileged system permission.
BLUETOOTH_SCAN Allows the app to discover and pair nearby Bluetooth devices
BROADCAST_CLOSE_SYSTEM_DIALOGS Signature or privileged system permission. docs ↗
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE Allows the app to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points and to make changes to device configuration for Wi-Fi networks.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE Allows the app to make use of foreground services.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SYSTEM_EXEMPTED Allows the app to make use of foreground services with the type "systemExempted"
INTERNET Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
NFC Allows the app to communicate with Near Field Communication (NFC) tags, cards, and readers.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Allows the app to read the contents of your shared storage.
REBOOT Signature or privileged system permission.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW This app can appear on top of other apps or other parts of the screen. This may interfere with normal app usage and change the way that other apps appear.
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Allows the app to write the contents of your shared storage.

Manage on devices

ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Disable for the current user
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.aircommandmanager
Remove for the current user - a per-user uninstall; the APK stays on /system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.aircommandmanager
Re-enable
adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.aircommandmanager
Restore (re-install for the current user)
adb shell pm install-existing com.samsung.android.aircommandmanager

Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
