CallBGProvider
Guidance
Recorded on devices as "CallBGProvider", this is a Samsung component that supports the Call background feature of the Galaxy Phone app: the option to show a chosen picture or video behind an incoming or ongoing call. Samsung documents the feature under Phone, Settings, Call background, where a background is picked from Samsung's supplied set or from the Gallery, and states that it "is only available on Galaxy devices operating on OS 11 and above". It has no launcher entry of its own in our sample, which fits a supporting component rather than an app a user opens; the Phone app is where Samsung documents the setting being reached. Samsung does not publish package-level documentation, so the tie between this package and that feature rests on its label together with what this site records: it holds READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO and READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED for picking media, MODIFY_THEME, Samsung Cloud backup read and write permissions, and is recorded at sizes from roughly 1.1 MB up to about 58 MB, the spread you would expect where some builds bundle ready made backgrounds and others do not. Read that mapping as well supported by the evidence rather than as a vendor statement. Version note: Samsung documents the feature as available on Galaxy devices running OS 11 and above. This site's sample records the package with version names from 13.0.00.13 to 18.0.00.1 and target SDK values from 29 to 37, so it has tracked many firmware releases, though a target SDK value on its own says nothing about the Android version of the device it was recorded on and so does not establish behaviour before Android 11. Whether the role of the package changed across those releases is not published and could not be sourced. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use it has no enrolment or policy role. It is personalisation, so on a locked-down or single-purpose device, and particularly on a kiosk with no dialler in use, it is a reasonable candidate for disabling. Its media permissions and its declaration of QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES are worth noting in a privacy review: Android documents QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES as giving an app visibility of all installed packages and directs developers to declare narrower visibility needs where they can, and Samsung does not publish why this package requires it, so treat the reason as unsourced rather than assuming it follows from the feature. The reason to be careful rather than casual is that the Phone app exposes the Call background settings, and the effect of removing the provider beneath a settings entry is not documented, so test on a single device first.

Package intelligence
Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.
- Signed by the device maker's own signing key (Samsung), so it is an OEM preinstall, but 2 different certificates appear across the fleet, so OEMs ship their own builds of it. It also signs the Android framework, so it is a platform-level key on its device(s). Inferred from the certificate appearing only on Samsung devices (508 packages, 10196 observations).
- Its largest observed manifest declares 16 permissions: 5 runtime (user-granted), 2 signature or system-level, 5 install-time and 4 vendor or uncatalogued.
- APK size ranges from 1.1 MB to 57.7 MB across the reporting device profiles, so the build differs substantially between them.
- Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
Declared permissions (16)
Largest permission set observed for this package. Text is Android's own published description where one exists; platform permissions Android does not document show their granted protection level (in grey) instead; vendor or unknown constants show the name only.

Manage on devices
ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
