The on-device package for "Dual Messenger", Samsung's One UI feature for running two accounts in the same messaging app. Samsung makes it, and it is signed by a Samsung OEM key in our sample. Samsung's own Common Criteria mode application lists for the Galaxy S20 5G record this package under the name "Dual Messenger" on both the Android 10 and Android 11 builds (versions 3.0.00.0 and 3.1.00.0 respectively). Samsung documents the feature itself under Settings, Advanced features, Dual Messenger, where a user switches on a supported app, installs a second copy of it, and signs in with a second account. The duplicate appears as its own icon marked with a Dual Messenger badge. Samsung notes that only selected models and selected apps support it. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk work, Samsung's position on managed devices is unusually direct: its Knox knowledge base states that the Dual Messenger team no longer supports the Knox framework in device owner or profile owner mode, as it is designed as a consumer feature, and advises that on a device enrolled in either mode the user should sign in to only one account per messaging app. In other words, do not plan around Dual Messenger on a corporate device, and do not expect duplicated app instances to behave predictably under management. A historical security note: in a blog post published in March 2019, researchers at Advania reported that version 2.0.00.0 of this app exported two activities that forwarded unvalidated intents with system-level privileges, letting a third-party app escape the Android sandbox and, among other things, install APKs without user consent. They reported that Samsung addressed it, but that the version number was not incremented, which makes patched and unpatched builds hard to tell apart by version alone. That finding is recorded here as history; whether current builds carry any related exposure was not established during this check. Samsung treats the feature as consumer-only on managed devices, so removing it on a corporate fleet takes away something Samsung does not expect to work there. Confirm the effect on a test device before applying it widely, particularly where a user has already created a duplicate app.

Package intelligence

Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.

PermissionDescription
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.
INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS_FULL Signature-level system permission, for platform-signed apps.
MANAGE_USERS Signature or privileged system permission.
READ_CONTACTS Allows the app to read data about your contacts stored on your phone. Apps will also have access to the accounts on your phone that have created contacts. This may include accounts created by apps you have installed. This permission allows apps to save your contact data, and malicious apps may share contact data without your knowledge.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.
WRITE_SETTINGS Allows the app to modify the system's settings data. Malicious apps may corrupt your system's configuration.

Manage on devices

ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Disable for the current user
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.da.daagent
Remove for the current user - a per-user uninstall; the APK stays on /system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.da.daagent
Re-enable
adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.da.daagent
Restore (re-install for the current user)
adb shell pm install-existing com.samsung.android.da.daagent
