Galaxy editing service
Guidance
Reported on devices as "Galaxy editing service", this is a background Samsung system service with no launcher icon. In our sample it is signed by the same Samsung key that signs the device framework, so it is an OEM component. Samsung does not appear to document it by name, so what follows is inferred from the package name ("global post-processing manager") and its declared permissions, rather than from vendor documentation. Its permissions are those of a media post-processing service: read access to images and video, access to the Samsung Gallery and media providers, the ability to request work from Samsung's camera processing components and the Motion photo service, and access to Samsung's AI image, text and speech recognition services. That fits a helper that finishes or applies edits to photos and videos in the background for the Gallery and Camera, such as the Galaxy AI editing tools Samsung documents in Gallery, but the specific features it serves could not be confirmed. Version note: in our sample it appears on Galaxy devices running Android 14 to 17, almost all on Android 15 or later. Any change in its role across those releases could not be sourced. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use it has no part in enrolment or policy. Because its exact role is not documented, disabling it risks breaking photo or video editing and processing in the Samsung Gallery or Camera in ways that are hard to predict, so it is best left in place unless there is a specific reason to remove it, and then only after testing on one device.
Package intelligence
Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.
- Signed by the device maker's own signing key (Samsung), so it is an OEM preinstall, and that single certificate is consistent across all 15 device profiles. It also signs the Android framework, so it is a platform-level key on its device(s). Inferred from the certificate appearing only on Samsung devices (508 packages, 10196 observations).
- Its largest observed manifest declares 42 permissions: 4 runtime (user-granted), 3 signature or system-level, 6 install-time and 29 vendor or uncatalogued.
- Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
Declared permissions (42)
Largest permission set observed for this package. Text is Android's own published description where one exists; platform permissions Android does not document show their granted protection level (in grey) instead; vendor or unknown constants show the name only.
| Permission | Description |
|---|---|
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE |
Allows the app to make use of foreground services. |
INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS_FULL |
Signature-level system permission, for platform-signed apps. |
INTERNET |
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
Allows the app to show notifications |
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES |
Allows the app to read image files from your shared storage. |
READ_MEDIA_VIDEO |
Allows the app to read video files from your shared storage. |
READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED |
Allows the app to read image and video files that you select from your shared storage. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running. |
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM |
This app can schedule work to happen at a desired time in the future. This also means that the app can run when you\u2019re not actively using the device. |
SET_ACTIVITY_WATCHER |
Signature-level system permission, for platform-signed apps. |
VIBRATE |
Allows the app to control the vibrator. |
WAKE_LOCK |
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep. |

ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
