Guidance

Safe to disable verified 10 Sep 2026

"Samsung Visit In", a Samsung location-based service that, as SamMobile describes it, can send deal notifications to a Galaxy device when it enters or passes a Samsung store; the service is not available in every region. It is signed by a Samsung OEM key that also signs the Android framework, a platform-level key, and has no launcher entry and no user-facing observation in our sample. SamMobile notes that it cannot normally be removed, but that it can be disabled, or its notifications turned off, from Settings > Apps with system apps shown. On One UI 9.0, the same article says, whether the service is active in your country is shown under Settings > your Samsung account > Samsung apps and services > Samsung Visit In. The permissions recorded here include fine, coarse and background location, Samsung positioning permissions (sec.permission.SAMSUNG_POSITIONING and sec.permission.RADIO_BASED_LOCATION), Wi-Fi state and change permissions, INTERNET, the Google cloud messaging receive permission (com.google.android.c2dm.permission.RECEIVE), RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW, READ_PHONE_STATE and READ_PRIVILEGED_PHONE_STATE, and Samsung account settings permissions. That set is consistent with a background geofencing service that raises notifications. This site aggregates permissions across observations rather than per build, so which builds request which permissions cannot be established. Version note: the package name has stayed the same while its label changed. Samsung's Knox Common Criteria application lists record it as "IpsGeofence" on the Galaxy S9 (version 4.0.00.2) and Galaxy S10+ (3.0.00.29) lists for Android 9 and on the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G list for Android 10 (4.1.00.7), and as "Samsung Visit In" on the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G list for Android 11 (4.1.02.122). Those lists do not show exactly when the label changed. In our sample it is recorded on Samsung devices running API 28 to 37 (Android 9 to 17), at versions 4.1.02.17 to 4.1.19.02, and one observation still reports the older "IpsGeofence" label. 13 of the 59 observations recorded here are flagged as updated system apps, so on at least some devices it has been updated after the factory image. No change in its role across Android versions could be sourced. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use, no enrolment or management role is identified in the sources cited here; it is a promotional feature. On company-owned devices where in-store deal notifications and Samsung's background location use for this service are unwanted, it is a reasonable candidate to disable. SamMobile documents disabling it as an ordinary user action, and no dependency on it is identified in the sources cited here.

Package intelligence

Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.

PermissionDescription
ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION This app can access location at any time, even while the app is not in use.
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION This app can get your approximate location from location services while the app is in use. Location services for your device must be turned on for the app to get location.
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION This app can get your precise location from location services while the app is in use. Location services for your device must be turned on for the app to get location. This may increase battery usage.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and name of connected Wi-Fi devices.
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE Allows the app to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points and to make changes to device configuration for Wi-Fi networks.
DEVICE_POWER Signature-level system permission, for platform-signed apps.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE Allows the app to make use of foreground services.
GET_INTENT_SENDER_INTENT Signature-level system permission, for platform-signed apps.
INTERNET Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Allows the app to show notifications
QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES Allows an app to see all installed packages.
READ_PHONE_STATE Allows the app to access the phone features of the device. This permission allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call.
READ_PRIVILEGED_PHONE_STATE Signature or privileged system permission. docs ↗
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW This app can appear on top of other apps or other parts of the screen. This may interfere with normal app usage and change the way that other apps appear.
WAKE_LOCK Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

Manage on devices

ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Disable for the current user
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.ipsgeofence
Remove for the current user - a per-user uninstall; the APK stays on /system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.ipsgeofence
Re-enable
adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.ipsgeofence
Restore (re-install for the current user)
adb shell pm install-existing com.samsung.android.ipsgeofence

Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
