Guidance

Disable with caution verified 8 Sep 2026

Samsung's service component behind Single Take, the camera mode that captures a burst of stills and clips from one press of the shutter. Samsung's own published Common Criteria application lists for Galaxy devices name this package "Single Take", so the mapping from package to feature is Samsung's rather than an inference. Writing about the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung describes the mode as using AI to capture up to 14 types of photo and video from between three and ten seconds of shooting, then offering the results for selection afterwards. Those figures are Samsung's for that implementation and should not be read as fixed across later devices and releases. The package has no launcher entry of its own: the mode is entered from inside the Camera app. Version note, and it matters here. Samsung's own troubleshooting article states that the feature "has been removed starting with One UI 8.5", and tells users to switch Single take back on in the Camera Assistant settings, under Additional modes, after which it is reached again by tapping More in the Camera app. So on recent firmware the mode is off by default and the presence of this package no longer implies it is offered. What this site's own data can and cannot say about that is worth stating plainly. Builds recorded here carry version names from 3.0.00.26 to 8.1.00.18, and Samsung's Android 11 era application lists record 2.0.00.29 and 2.1.00.37 for the same package. A package version name cannot be mapped to a One UI release, and this site records no One UI version, so whether the package itself is still present, or still installed in the same form, on a One UI 8.5 build cannot be established from these figures. Observations span API 31 to API 37 with a target SDK roll-up of 30 to 36, which are independent roll-ups across observations rather than a per-build pairing. Provenance is straightforward. Every observation here is on a Samsung device and carries a single Samsung signing certificate, one that also signs the Android framework, so this is a platform preinstall rather than anything installed from a store, and no observation is Play-eligible. It is not a small component: recorded builds run from roughly 18 MB to 43 MB across 32 device models. Its permissions are what a camera feature that writes results to the gallery would need, including a camera foreground service type, broad media read and write access, MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, and read or write access to several Samsung media, filter and face providers. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk fleets it has no enrolment or management role and nothing an administrator configures. On a dedicated device that never takes photographs the feature it backs is not part of the workflow, though what the component does in the background there was not established here, and its size makes it a reasonable candidate where storage on the system image is being reviewed. Where photography is part of the workflow, the prudent assumption is that disabling it removes the Single Take mode and leaves ordinary capture alone, but that is inference from its scope rather than sourced, so verify the camera flow on one device before applying it fleet wide.

Package intelligence

Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.

Manage on devices

ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Disable for the current user
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.singletake.service
Remove for the current user - a per-user uninstall; the APK stays on /system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.singletake.service
Re-enable
adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.singletake.service
Restore (re-install for the current user)
adb shell pm install-existing com.samsung.android.singletake.service

Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
