Guidance

Disable with caution verified 25 Aug 2026

A Samsung system component that every observation on this site reports as "IPService", untranslated in every locale recorded, so the label is a code name rather than a description. It is preinstalled, Samsung-signed with certificates this site also records as signing the framework, has no launcher entry on any of the 44 devices that report it, and is not marked Play-eligible on any observation. Samsung lists the package in its Common Criteria mode application lists as far back as a Nougat era Galaxy S8, where it appears with no product name at all and the package name standing in for the label, so it has been part of the Samsung image for a long time without Samsung ever publishing what it does. This note therefore does not expand the abbreviation. Consumer sites are confident that the "IP" stands for Internet Protocol and that the component manages network settings, but nothing found supports that, so it is not cited and not repeated here as fact. It is worth noting that this site's record does not show the package requesting the INTERNET permission at all. What the manifest points to is an area, and in the largest permission set this site has observed for the package that area is imaging, text recognition and Samsung's on-device AI services. The site records up to 75 requested permissions across the sample, and does not attribute that set to a particular build. The platform ones are narrow and media-weighted: READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, VIBRATE and WAKE_LOCK. The bulk of the rest are bind and provider permissions in Samsung's own namespaces, among them com.samsung.android.scs.ai.image.permission.BIND_IMAGE_SERVICE and IMAGE_PROVIDER, com.samsung.android.scs.ai.text.permission.TEXT_PROVIDER, com.samsung.ocr.permission.OCR_SERVICE and com.samsung.android.sdk.ocr.permission.PROVIDE_OCR_RESOURCE, com.samsung.aimodelprovider.objectremovalmodels.AIProvider.READ, a set of com.samsung.android.aicore.permission entries including BIND_ON_DEVICE_SERVICE, com.samsung.android.visual.cloudcore.permission.BIND_IMAGE_EDITOR_SERVICE and BIND_PORTRAIT_SERVICE, a long list of com.samsung.android.intellivoiceservice bind permissions covering summarisation, translation, transcription and writing assistance, and gallery and media provider permissions such as com.sec.android.gallery3d.provider2.WRITE and com.samsung.android.providers.media.READ. Declaring a permission is not the same as using the service it guards, and this site does not record runtime behaviour, so the honest statement is that the names it asks for cluster around Samsung's imaging and on-device AI services. Whether any of that access is granted, which side calls which, and what feature it ultimately serves are all unknown here and are not claimed. Version note, and this is the part that matters most for this package. Its version line has moved a long way, but whether its role changed with it could not be sourced. Samsung's application lists record version 1.0.44 on a Nougat era Galaxy S8, 1.0.88 on the Galaxy Note9 on Android 8, 3.0.38 on an Android 10 Galaxy S20+ and 4.0.38 to 4.1.19 on Android 11 devices. This site's sample runs API 28 to 37 with versions 7.0.49 to 12.0.05, target SDK 31 to 37 and package sizes from roughly 939 KB to 4.32 MB. Nothing found records what the older 1.0.x manifests contained, so the permission set described above cannot be compared against them and no functional change is asserted. What can be said is that the AI namespaces named in the observed permission set belong to the Galaxy AI era: Samsung's Knox documentation states that "Galaxy AI features are available on Galaxy S24 series devices running One UI 6.1 (Android 14) or later with Knox 3.10 or later", and Samsung's documentation does not name this package anywhere in that context. A reader may reasonably suspect the component's scope widened around that point, given a version line that reaches 12.x and a size range that grows more than fourfold across the sample, but that is inference from this site's own data, it is offered as inference only, and it could not be confirmed from any Samsung source. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use it has no documented part in enrolment or policy enforcement, and nothing found suggests an EMM interacts with it directly. Where it becomes relevant is data governance. If the concern behind looking this package up is Galaxy AI processing user content, the documented control is a policy rather than a package: Knox Service Plugin carries "Allow process data only on device", "Block all Galaxy AI" and "Block individual Galaxy AI operations" under its advanced restriction policies, with the blocking policies needing Knox 3.11 or later, and Samsung notes an admin can set the data processing policy before a user ever opens an AI feature. That is a far better lever than disabling an undocumented component whose permission set sits alongside Samsung's imaging and AI services. Removal should be treated as untested: its dependents are not published, it is framework-signed, and the effect on the Camera, Gallery and text recognition features is not something any source found sets out. Where it must be suppressed, Samsung documents blocking a preinstalled app by package name through Knox Manage's application policies; test on a single device first.

Package intelligence

Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.

Manage on devices

ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Disable for the current user
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.ipservice
Remove for the current user - a per-user uninstall; the APK stays on /system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.ipservice
Re-enable
adb shell pm enable com.samsung.ipservice
Restore (re-install for the current user)
adb shell pm install-existing com.samsung.ipservice
