Guidance

Disable with caution verified 27 Aug 2026

A Samsung component shown on devices simply as "Tools", and localised as Hulpmiddelen, Strumenti, Herramientas, Narzędzia and Outils in our sample, with one observation carrying the fuller label "Quick tools". Samsung names the package in its own Knox Common Criteria mode application lists, so its presence and its "Tools" label are Samsung-confirmed; it is signed with a Samsung framework-signing certificate and has no launcher entry in our sample. What it is remains partly an inference. The package name and label point to the Tools edge panel, the panel in Samsung's One UI edge panel feature that SamMobile's edge panel guide describes as offering a compass, a tally counter, a flashlight, a surface level and a ruler, enabled from Settings, Display, Edge panels, Panels. Samsung's own published edge panel guidance does not support that pairing: the UK support page names the Apps, People, Tasks and Samsung Internet panels and does not mention a Tools panel at all, and the Canadian page describing the redesigned edge panel does not name it either. So the identification rests on the on-device label plus third-party reporting, not on Samsung documentation, and is flagged here rather than asserted. The recorded permissions are a mixed fit for that reading. Fine and coarse location, VIBRATE, WAKE_LOCK and WRITE_SETTINGS are what small on-screen utilities such as a compass or a torch would plausibly need. REORDER_TASKS and SET_PROCESS_LIMIT are not explained by anything Samsung publishes about a tools panel, and we could not source why they are present. It also carries a Samsung Push Service token permission and a com.wssnps permission whose purpose we could not source. Version note: the numbering has moved a long way and Samsung publishes no changelog for it. Samsung's certified lists record version 8.0.22 on the Galaxy S20 5G (Android 10), 8.2.37 on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G (Android 11) and 8.2.40.1 on the Galaxy S21+ 5G (Android 11), while this database's sample runs from 13.1.04.0 to 18.0.00.6 across target SDKs 29 to 36. So the certified Android 10 and 11 examples all sit on an 8.x line while this database also records 13.x to 18.x builds; when the numbering changed, and what it represents, could not be sourced. Separately, Samsung does document a redesign of the edge panel feature between One UI 6.1.0 and One UI 6.1.1, in which the previously separate Smart select panel was removed, so the panel list around this package is known to vary by release even where the package itself does not. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk fleets the point to weigh is that an edge panel opens over the top of whatever app is in the foreground, which is exactly the sort of side door a dedicated-device lockdown is meant to close, and this one also holds fine location. The tidier fleet control is Samsung's own rather than package removal: Knox Service Plugin exposes an Allow Edge screen policy that turns the whole edge panel feature off. Removal is rated with caution rather than safe only because the panel identification above is unconfirmed; if it is the Tools panel then it is user-deselectable in Settings and removing it should simply take it off the list. Confirm that on a test device first.

Package intelligence

Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.

Manage on devices

ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Disable for the current user
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.sec.android.app.quicktool
Remove for the current user - a per-user uninstall; the APK stays on /system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sec.android.app.quicktool
Re-enable
adb shell pm enable com.sec.android.app.quicktool
Restore (re-install for the current user)
adb shell pm install-existing com.sec.android.app.quicktool

Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
