Microsoft SwiftKey Factory Settings
Guidance
A companion package to the Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard, labelled "Microsoft SwiftKey Factory Settings" on this site (one observation records "SwiftKey factory settings"). Microsoft's integration guide for device makers describes a SwiftKey factory settings APK as a simple content provider that must be installed along with the SwiftKey keyboard, that allows SwiftKey to be preinstalled and gives a different user experience from a copy downloaded from Google Play, and that is not visible to users on the home screen. The guide does not give that APK's package name, so the tie to this package is an inference from its label, from the SwiftKey keyboard requesting a permission named com.swiftkey.swiftkeyconfigurator.READCONFIG, and from this site recording both packages on the same devices and, where signer data is held (the Samsung and TCL devices), under the same key classified as Microsoft's. It is recorded on HONOR, Samsung, Sony and TCL devices on API levels 27 to 37; this site records no requested permissions for it and a user-facing count of zero. The guide also says the default location for preinstalled language packs can be changed by a factory settings APK built for the device maker, and that if the factory settings APK is installed where the user can uninstall it, the custom configuration may not be applied. Microsoft's commercial partners page lists a separate FactorySettings APK download alongside the keyboard. No version-specific change in its role was found in the sources cited here. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use, no enrolment or management role is identified in the sources cited here. If it is the factory settings APK the guide describes, disabling it could leave the SwiftKey keyboard without the device maker's configuration; the resulting behaviour could not be sourced, so no rating is given. On a device where SwiftKey is not used, treat the two packages together.
Package intelligence
Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.
- Signed by a third-party certificate (carrier or partner), not stock AOSP or Google - Microsoft, and that single certificate is consistent across all 7 device profiles.
- Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
Manage on devices
ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.
/system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)Seen on
Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
