Guidance
The original AOSP wallpaper picker, built from platform/packages/apps/ WallpaperPicker. Its manifest declares the package name com.android.wallpaperpicker, requests only SET_WALLPAPER, and registers an activity handling android.intent.action.SET_WALLPAPER, which is what a long press on the home screen or a "set wallpaper" action resolves to. On the device it carries the label "Wallpapers". It is a plain user-facing app with no platform service role. Version note: this is the older of two AOSP wallpaper pickers and it has been left behind. Its manifest still targets SDK 30, and the current AOSP personalisation app is the separate WallpaperPicker2 project, which ships as com.android.wallpaper or, in Google's build, com.google.android.apps.wallpaper, both documented separately on this site. This package corresponds to the legacy picker, but its presence alone does not establish which wallpaper interface a device actually uses: a build can carry it alongside a newer picker, and which one handles a wallpaper request depends on what else is installed. In this dataset it shows up mainly on ODM, rugged and enterprise handset builds rather than on mainstream flagships, signed by each vendor's own platform key. We could not source an AOSP statement declaring the older project deprecated, so treat the succession as evident from the two projects rather than as a formally announced deprecation. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use the guidance matches the newer pickers: control the behaviour with policy rather than by removing the app. The Android Management API exposes setWallpaperDisabled, which stops the user changing the wallpaper while leaving the app in place, and on a locked-down kiosk the picker is usually unreachable anyway. Disabling the package removes the wallpaper entry point, which is cosmetic but visible, and on builds where the launcher hands wallpaper selection to this app it can leave a dead action in the UI, so prefer the policy control and test before disabling it fleet-wide.
Package intelligence
Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.
- Signed by Google's own signing key (the same key Google uses across devices), so it is a Google-provided preinstall that updates independently of the system image, though 10 different Google signing keys appear across the fleet. This certificate spans 25 device makes - the hallmark of a globally distributed Google key.
- Its largest observed manifest declares 3 permissions: 1 runtime (user-granted), 1 signature or system-level and 1 install-time.
- APK size ranges from 0.1 MB to 85.0 MB across the reporting device profiles, so the build differs substantially between them.
- Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
Declared permissions (3)
Largest permission set observed for this package. Text is Android's own published description where one exists; platform permissions Android does not document show their granted protection level (in grey) instead; vendor or unknown constants show the name only.

Manage on devices
ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.

Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
