com.mediatek
Guidance
A platform package in MediaTek's com.mediatek namespace, preinstalled on devices built on MediaTek chipsets. In our sample it is recorded across many makes (Xiaomi, Samsung, Motorola, TCL, OPPO, vivo, OUKITEL, NUU and others), and in each case it is signed with that device maker's own platform key, with the certificate marked as one that also signs the framework. That per-maker platform signing is the pattern seen when a silicon vendor's component is rebuilt into each OEM's firmware rather than shipped under one shared key. The site records no user-facing observation of it, consistent with a background platform component with no launcher entry. MediaTek publishes no per-package documentation for this bare com.mediatek package, so beyond the namespace and its platform-level signing its exact responsibilities on any given firmware could not be sourced. Treat the specific function as vendor-defined and build-specific rather than a documented fact. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use, nothing in the Android Enterprise or OEM management documentation refers to this package and no evidence was found that it takes part in enrolment or policy. Because it carries a platform-level signature and sits in the chipset vendor's namespace, disabling it could have chipset and firmware specific effects that could not be sourced, so it is safest left in place and only touched with careful per-device testing.
Package intelligence
Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.
- Re-signed by each device maker with its own platform key - 12 different certificates appear across 8 device makers in our sample. That is the signature of a stock AOSP/system package every OEM builds and signs itself, not a single maker's or a third party's preinstall. These are platform-level keys: they also sign the Android framework itself.
- APK size ranges from 0.2 MB to 2.6 MB across the reporting device profiles, so the build differs substantially between them.
- Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
Manage on devices
ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.
/system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)Seen on
Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
