Guidance
A MediaTek platform component found on MediaTek-based devices. MediaTek publishes no public documentation for it, and we could not find an authoritative source describing what it does, so this note deliberately stops at what can be observed rather than guessing at its behaviour. What the data shows: it is built into the ROM rather than installed, because in our sample every copy is signed by the device maker's own framework-signing key, across a wide spread of MediaTek-based makers including Blackview, CUBOT, HOTWAV, Infinix, Lenovo, Newland, NUU, OUKITEL, Ulefone, Unihertz, Xiaomi, Motorola, realme, Samsung and Sony. It reports no user-visible label, showing instead as its own class name, and it is not recorded as user-facing on any device we have seen, so it has no launcher entry. Its recorded permissions are RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, START_ACTIVITIES_FROM_BACKGROUND, SHUTDOWN, INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS_FULL, WRITE_SETTINGS and WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS. Taken with the package name, that is consistent with a component that starts at boot and can put a warning in front of the user and power the device down, but we have not been able to source that, and it should be read as a reasonable inference rather than a documented fact. Version note: we record it on devices from API 27 through API 35 (Android 8.1 to Android 15), with recent builds reporting a version string that simply tracks the platform version, 14 or 15. It does not appear on Android 16 or newer devices in our sample, but with a sample this size that may reflect what we have observed rather than removal from newer MediaTek platforms, so do not read it as the package having been dropped. No sourced change in its role across those releases is known. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use no enrolment, policy or connectivity role was identified for it, and nothing about it is user-facing on the devices we have seen. We are not giving a disable verdict: an undocumented platform component holding the SHUTDOWN permission is not one to switch off on a hunch, and a fleet that has a reason to disable it should test on a single device of that exact model first. As an unsourced precaution, given the package name, low-battery behaviour is the thing to watch during that test.
Package intelligence
Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.
- Re-signed by each device maker with its own platform key - 8 different certificates appear across 7 device makers in our sample. That is the signature of a stock AOSP/system package every OEM builds and signs itself, not a single maker's or a third party's preinstall. These are platform-level keys: they also sign the Android framework itself.
- Its largest observed manifest declares 6 permissions: 5 signature or system-level and 1 install-time. The signature/system share marks it as a privileged component, not an ordinary app.
- Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
Declared permissions (6)
Largest permission set observed for this package. Text is Android's own published description where one exists; platform permissions Android does not document show their granted protection level (in grey) instead; vendor or unknown constants show the name only.
| Permission | Description |
|---|---|
INTERACT_ACROSS_USERS_FULL |
Signature-level system permission, for platform-signed apps. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running. |
SHUTDOWN |
Signature or privileged system permission. |
START_ACTIVITIES_FROM_BACKGROUND |
Signature or privileged system permission. docs ↗ |
WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS |
Signature or privileged system permission. |
WRITE_SETTINGS |
Allows the app to modify the system's settings data. Malicious apps may corrupt your system's configuration. |
Manage on devices
ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.
/system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)Seen on
Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
