"EngineerMode", MediaTek's built-in engineering and hardware test menu. The source cited below is MediaTek-copyrighted EngineerMode code carrying a MediaTek Inc. header, published in an unofficial third-party mirror of an older MediaTek tree rather than by MediaTek itself. It shows one launcher activity fronting dozens of test modules: telephony and radio work such as network information, band mode, RAT mode, modem test and SIM lock; the short-range radios (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, FM); hardware checks for touchscreen, camera, battery, display, memory, USB and CPU stress; location, including a GPS viewer and assisted GPS; and diagnostics such as system log, log to server, thermal and CDS information. The menu is assembled conditionally from feature flags, so what any one device shows depends on its chipset and build. On the devices recorded by this database it is OEM platform-signed, has no launcher icon and is never user-facing. It appears on ranges built around MediaTek chipsets, including rugged and handheld makers such as Newland and OUKITEL alongside Xiaomi, TCL and NUU. Having no launcher icon, it is not reachable from the app drawer; how any given build exposes it could not be sourced, so treat the route in as device-specific. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk deployments the point of interest is what it can change rather than what it runs. The same menu that reports radio status also exposes band and RAT selection, modem tests and hardware toggles, so anyone who can reach it on a managed device can alter network behaviour directly, outside the settings an EMM normally manages. That is worth auditing on a locked-down, shared-use or single-app fleet. It plays no part in enrolment or policy, and it is not user-facing on the devices recorded here, but what a particular build depends on it for could not be sourced and vendor support may ask for it during fault diagnosis, so treat disabling it as a deliberate decision and test one device first. Version note: the source that documents the module list is a 2010-era MediaTek tree, while the builds recorded here report version 1.0 with target SDKs of 34 to 36 on devices ranging from API 28 to 35. Treat the module list as indicative of the tool's scope rather than exact for any current device. No Android release in which MediaTek withdrew or superseded this component could be sourced, so any version-specific change is flagged here rather than asserted.
