PowerOffAlarm
Guidance
PowerOffAlarm, a small Qualcomm-named system component that handles the power-off alarm feature on some Snapdragon devices, where an alarm set before the device is switched off can wake it from the powered-off state. It has no user-facing entry in any observation recorded here and is labelled "PowerOffAlarm" in every locale recorded. Open-source code shows how other software drives it. The Clock app (com.best.deskclock) sends org.codeaurora.poweroffalarm.action.SET_ALARM and CANCEL_ALARM broadcasts, with the alarm time, addressed to this package, and treats the feature as possibly unsupported or blocked; its F-Droid listing adds that power-off alarms work on some Snapdragon devices only and may not work on some devices despite this package being present. The Paranoid Android (AOSPA) framework carries a PowerOffAlarmService that sends the same broadcasts to this package for the next system alarm clock, and stops if the package is missing or disabled. A crDroid device-tree patch for OnePlus SM8350 devices shows this package's manifest with a PowerOffAlarmBroadcastReceiver for those two actions, guarded on that OnePlus build by a OnePlus-specific permission, and patches it to use org.codeaurora.permission.POWER_OFF_ALARM, described there as setting and clearing the alarm which will wake up the device from the power off state. That patch shows the receiver's protection can differ between OEM builds. These are custom ROM and third-party sources, not Qualcomm documentation. Although it carries a Qualcomm name, it is shipped by device makers. It is recorded here on devices from CipherLab, Crosscall, Datalogic, Elo Touch Solutions, Fairphone, HMD Global, Lenovo, Nothing, OnePlus, Xiaomi and Zebra Technologies, and where signer data is recorded (Zebra Technologies, Nothing, Fairphone, Xiaomi, Crosscall, HMD Global and Lenovo) each copy is signed by that maker's OEM key, a key that also signs the Android framework, a platform-level key. It requests SHUTDOWN, DISABLE_KEYGUARD, RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, VIBRATE and external storage permissions; this site aggregates permissions across observations rather than per build, so which builds declare them cannot be established. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use no enrolment, policy or management role for it is identified in the sources cited here. It appears on rugged and fixed-purpose devices recorded here from Zebra, Datalogic, CipherLab, Crosscall and Elo Touch Solutions. In the AOSPA code, disabling this package stops the framework service that sets power-off alarms, so on such builds the expected effect is losing alarms while the device is switched off. What each OEM's stock build does without it was not sourced, so test before disabling it on a fleet. Version note: it is recorded here from API 28 to API 35, and this site's roll-up reports version strings from 13 (oldest) to 15 (newest); those figures do not establish how its versions relate to Android releases. Whether its role or behaviour changes between Android releases could not be sourced.

Package intelligence
Observed signing, permission, version and size signals from contributing devices - descriptive of that sample, not a verdict. These come from the v2 Package Search sync, which not every device has contributed to yet, so for some packages this detail is partial or not present at all.
- Re-signed by each device maker with its own platform key - 10 different certificates appear across 9 device makers in our sample. That is the signature of a stock AOSP/system package every OEM builds and signs itself, not a single maker's or a third party's preinstall. These are platform-level keys: they also sign the Android framework itself.
- Its largest observed manifest declares 6 permissions: 2 runtime (user-granted), 1 signature or system-level and 3 install-time.
- APK size ranges from 0.0 MB to 2.9 MB across the reporting device profiles, so the build differs substantially between them.
- Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
Declared permissions (6)
Largest permission set observed for this package. Text is Android's own published description where one exists; platform permissions Android does not document show their granted protection level (in grey) instead; vendor or unknown constants show the name only.
| Permission | Description |
|---|---|
DISABLE_KEYGUARD |
Allows the app to disable the keylock and any associated password security. For example, the phone disables the keylock when receiving an incoming phone call, then re-enables the keylock when the call is finished. |
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE |
Allows the app to read the contents of your shared storage. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running. |
SHUTDOWN |
Signature or privileged system permission. |
VIBRATE |
Allows the app to control the vibrator. |
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE |
Allows the app to write the contents of your shared storage. |
Manage on devices
ADB commands for this package (the inverse of each is included so you can undo). Run from an authorised shell or wire the equivalent into your DPC. Verify on a test device first - this database doesn’t yet classify which packages are safe to change. --user 0 targets the current user; drop it (and use a privileged shell) to act device-wide.
/system, so Restore re-adds it (-k keeps app data)Seen on
Each record is a device profile (make + model + Android version). Each unique handset that syncs against a matching profile will increase the observations of a package, thereby increasing confidence that a package is expected to be on a device.
