IntentResolver is the Android system component that shows the "Open with" chooser and the system share sheet (Sharesheet). It contains the ResolverActivity that picks which app handles an intent when more than one can, and the ChooserActivity that presents the sharing surface after a user taps Share. It is part of AOSP and is signed by the platform, so on Google devices it is Google-signed and on OEM builds it carries that OEM's platform signature. Version note: historically this code lived inside the framework and System UI. Starting with Android 13 QPR1, Google forked it into a separate app at packages/modules/IntentResolver, initially behind a CHOOSER_UNBUNDLED flag and disabled by default, as an experiment in unbundling the share sheet from the framework. Its location under packages/modules/ (where Project Mainline components live) suggests Google may make it an updatable Mainline module in a future release, though at the time of writing that had not been confirmed. This is why the standalone package appears on newer devices but not older ones, and its exact role can differ by Android version and OEM. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use it has no enrolment or management function, but it is core system UI: it backs the everyday "share" and "open with" dialogs. Disabling or removing it would break sharing and app-choice behaviour across the device, so it should be left in place.

• Re-signed by each device maker with its own platform key - 26 different certificates appear across 14 device makers in our sample. That is the signature of a stock AOSP/system package every OEM builds and signs itself, not a single maker's or a third party's preinstall. These are platform-level keys: they also sign the Android framework itself.
• Its largest observed manifest declares 87 permissions: 1 runtime (user-granted), 18 signature or system-level, 5 install-time and 63 vendor or uncatalogued.
• APK size ranges from 1.5 MB to 8.5 MB across the reporting device profiles, so the build differs substantially between them.
• Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
