com.android.localtransport Copy

The Local Transport, an AOSP backup "transport" signed by the platform key. Android's backup framework copies app data through a transport; the local transport stores that data on the device itself rather than in the cloud, and exists primarily so developers can test backup and restore on a single device without real cloud infrastructure. It is selected manually with a command such as "bmgr transport com.android.localtransport/.LocalTransport". It is made by Google as part of AOSP. In normal operation it is inert: on a Google-services device the active transport is the GMS cloud transport (com.google.android.gms backup transport), not this one, so the local transport does nothing unless explicitly selected. In an Android Enterprise / EMM / kiosk context it is not used by end users and has no day-to-day function, though it remains a standard platform component.

• Re-signed by each device maker with its own platform key - 31 different certificates appear across 17 device makers in our sample. That is the signature of a stock AOSP/system package every OEM builds and signs itself, not a single maker's or a third party's preinstall. These are platform-level keys: they also sign the Android framework itself.
• Its largest observed manifest declares 1 permissions: 1 vendor or uncatalogued.
• Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
