com.android.wallpapercropper Copy

This is the AOSP Wallpaper Cropper, a small platform component that lives in the Android Open Source Project tree (frameworks/base/packages/WallpaperCropper). It has no launcher icon and is not a user-facing app in its own right: its job is to crop and position an image when it is applied as the device wallpaper. On the site it is signed by a wide range of OEM platform keys (Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Nothing, Zebra and others) as well as Google, which is consistent with it being a platform-signed AOSP package that each vendor builds into its own firmware. Version note: this is a legacy AOSP component. On many modern devices the cropping and positioning step is handled inside the wallpaper picker rather than by this standalone package, so whether it is present, and whether it does anything, varies by OEM and Android version. The precise release in which a given vendor stopped shipping or using it could not be sourced, so treat its role as OEM- and version-dependent rather than assuming it is active. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use it has no enrolment or management function. A community debloat reference lists it as safe to delete, and the main reported effect of removing or disabling it is on the wallpaper-cropping user interface, which is rarely relevant on a managed or single-purpose device where the wallpaper is set by policy. It reclaims negligible resources, so there is little to gain from touching it either way.

• Re-signed by each device maker with its own platform key - 27 different certificates appear across 18 device makers in our sample. That is the signature of a stock AOSP/system package every OEM builds and signs itself, not a single maker's or a third party's preinstall. These are platform-level keys: they also sign the Android framework itself.
• Its largest observed manifest declares 3 permissions: 2 install-time and 1 vendor or uncatalogued.
• Never reported as user-facing, so it runs as a background or system component rather than an app the user opens.
