Android System WebView. This is the shared Chromium-based renderer that any other app can embed to display web content, OAuth and SSO sign-in pages, in-app help screens, and HTML email bodies. From Android 10 onwards, WebView was split out of the Chrome app into its own package using the Trichrome library, and is updated independently via the Play Store. Despite the AOSP-style label, the Google build of this package is proprietary and Google-signed. The AOSP build (com.android.webview, below) and some OEM providers (e.g. com.crosscall.lduweb on Crosscall devices) ship under different package names; only one provider is active at a time, selected in Developer options. On a Google Mobile Services device this Google build is the active provider. For Android Enterprise and kiosk deployments WebView matters whenever the kiosk app, the EMM agent, or a federated sign-in flow renders web content. Disabling WebView on such a device breaks those flows silently, often showing a blank screen rather than an error. Native-only kiosks that never render web content are unaffected, which is why this package is listed as conditional in the kiosk-essentials bundle.

• Signed by Google's own signing key (the same key Google uses across devices), so it is a Google-provided preinstall that updates independently of the system image, and that single certificate is consistent across all 52 device profiles. This certificate spans 20 device makes - the hallmark of a globally distributed Google key.
• Its largest observed manifest declares 8 permissions: 1 runtime (user-granted), 5 install-time and 2 vendor or uncatalogued.
• APK size ranges from 0.4 MB to 256.1 MB across the reporting device profiles, so the build differs substantially between them.
• Reported as an updated system app on 90 of 52 profiles - a newer build is installed over the one in the system image there.
