com.google.mainline.telemetry Copy

A Google-signed Project Mainline bookkeeping package, usually shown to users under the label "Support components". It is associated with the metrics ("telemetry") group of Mainline modules and is one of the small packages whose main observable role is to carry a version number for its module train as part of the Google Play system update mechanism. It has no user interface and is not an app anyone launches. Version note: like the rest of Project Mainline this package only appears on devices that receive Google Play system updates, a mechanism Google introduced in Android 10. Public sources differ on how much active code this particular package contains versus acting purely as a train version marker, so that detail is treated here as uncertain; what is consistent is that it is Google system plumbing rather than a feature. For Android Enterprise, EMM and kiosk use it has no enrolment or management role and no user-facing function. There is no benefit to disabling it, and it is not a supported way to limit anything, so leave it in place.

• Signed by Google's own signing key (the same key Google uses across devices), so it is a Google-provided preinstall that updates independently of the system image, though 2 different Google signing keys appear across the fleet. This certificate spans 16 device makes - the hallmark of a globally distributed Google key.
